Goztepe Prof.  Dr. Suleyman Yalcin City Hospital has been built within the scope of the Istanbul Seismic Risk Mitigation and Emergency Preparedness Project (ISMEP), created to prepare Istanbul for a potential earthquake. The previous Goztepe Training and Research Hospital had a total indoor area of 65 thousand square meters, while the Goztepe Prof. Dr. Suleyman Yalcin City Hospital, which has been built, has a total indoor area of 180 thousand square meters. 

The reconstruction works of the new Hospital were performed section by section without interrupting the functioning of the Hospital which continued its operations, and therefore the complete renovation of the Hospital took longer time than an ordinary process.

The New Hospital, planned as a General Service Hospital, has been designed to serve 1 million 650 thousand outpatients and 50 thousand inpatients annually, enabling all kinds of prospective changes and developments, and has been built as an ultra-modern structure that can be observed in few projects even in Europe. 

The Inpatient bed availability of Goztepe Prof. Dr. Suleyman Yalcin City Hospital is 779. The hospital consists of 3 basement floors + 10 typical floors + 1 technical floor. There is a heliport on the roof of the hospital. It involves 176 outpatient clinics, 27 operating theatres, 81 beds in emergency service, 91 beds in intensive care unit. The hospital has 2 fire elevators, 6 common/general use elevators, 5 bed elevators, 5 logistics elevators, 1 emergency elevator, 1 sterile elevator, 1 mortuary elevator, and 6 escalators. The parking capacity of the hospital is for 1253 vehicles.

Equipped with energy-saving systems, the hospital can generate a remarkable amount of its electricity from natural gas with its Trigeneration Center. Operating costs are kept to a minimum by providing heating and cooling of the hospital with the thermal energy released.

In Goztepe Prof. Dr. Suleyman Yalçın City Hospital which is also the first public hospital with LEED Gold (Green Building) Certification, all single and double rooms are in the comfort of a 5-star hotel with a toilet, bathroom, maximum two patient beds, television, telephone, dining table, étagère and a recliner sofa for companions in accordance with the definition of a qualified patient room established by the Ministry of Health.

Goztepe Prof. Dr. Suleyman Yalcin City Hospital has been built with Seismic Isolation Technique and Smart Building Technology to provide uninterrupted service during and after a potential earthquake.
